Prynne (1974)<\/div>\n<p>Der Titel des St\u00fcckes \u201ePathology of Syntax\u201c (2006\u201307), komponiert f\u00fcr ein Streichquartett, kommt aus J. H. Prynnes Gedicht \u201eOf Movement Towards a Natural Place\u201c. Dieses wiederum entstammt der Gedicht-Anthologie \u201eWound Response\u201c (1974), welche das Moment der\u00a0<em>Wunde<\/em>\u00a0aus dem blo\u00df k\u00f6rperlichen Bereich \u00fcber die metaphorische Bedeutung in eine ganz umfassende Betrachtung des\u00a0<em>Schmerzes<\/em>\u00a0\u00fcbertr\u00e4gt. Douglas Oliver bezeichnet dies als \u201esublim-buchst\u00e4blich\u201c und meint damit einen Bereich, in dem der poetische Gedanke mit einem quasi-wissenschaftlichen, pr\u00e4zisen Moment der\u00a0<em>Beobachtung<\/em>\u00a0zusammenf\u00e4llt.<\/p>\n<p>Einiges der gestischen \u201esprach\u00e4hnlichen\u201c Eigenschaften der \u201ePathology of Syntax\u201c ist abgeleitet aus Beethovens Opus 135, dessen Mittelpunkt ebenfalls von einer \u201eWunde\u201c markiert wird, \u00e4hnlich jener Art Wunden, die Beethoven auch in anderen Streichquartetten eingebaut hat und von denen Adorno sagte, sie erschienen ihm, \u201cals ob der Komponist handgreiflich eine gewisse Gewalt einschr\u00e4nke, die allerdings Bestandteil seiner Komposition ist\u201c. Die Wunde bewirkt n\u00e4mlich eine \u201ePathologie der Syntax\u201c, die den eigentlichen Flu\u00df der musikalischen Informationen besch\u00e4digt und korrumpiert. Dadurch aber k\u00f6nnen neue Konstruktionen entstehen, die einem ansonsten herabgew\u00fcrdigten musikalischen Wortschatz entstammen und dem musikalischen Ausdruck Schranken auferlegen. Dabei werden Gesten auf ihre eigentliche K\u00f6rperlichkeit zur\u00fcckgef\u00fchrt, etwa durch das Zupfen und Kratzens der Saiten oder von Materialien wie Haaren, Holz oder Metall. Diese \u201ePathologie\u201c vermag den musikalischen Lyrismus umzuwerten und seine organische Verbindung auf ein expressives Subjekt umzuleiten. Dabei entsteht eine Musik, deren Sprach\u00e4hnlichkeit das Anthropomorphe hinter sich l\u00e4sst und vielmehr das Verst\u00e4ndnis der \u201edie Beziehung dessen, was in unseren K\u00f6pfen geschieht und dem Rest unseres K\u00f6rpers und der ganzen \u00e4u\u00dferen Welt\u201c fortsetzt und erweitert.
